PESTICIDES USE STRATEGY BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF IPM

Pesticide Use Strategy Based on IPM Concept Based on the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), the use of pesticides must follow five principles, namely: Right on target Right kind On time Right dose / concentration Right way of use Right on target Right on target means that the target Plant Pest Organisms (OPT) must be known its species quickly. Thus it can be determined the right type of pesticide that needs to be used. Example: If the pest that attacks is an insect, then an insecticide is chosen. If the attack is mites, acaricides are selected. Right Kind After knowing the target pest to be controlled and the appropriate type of pesticide, it is necessary to select the right type of pesticide. Example: To control armyworms (Spodoptera litura), the insecticides Lufenuron, Sihalotrin, etc. On time The use of pesticides based on the IPM concept must be carried out based on the results of routine monitoring / observation, namely if the pest population or the damage it causes has reached the Economic Threshold (Control Threshold). This is because the presence of pests or diseases in the plantations is not necessarily economically disadvantageous. Pesticide spraying is done in the morning but should be done in the afternoon, because generally pests (especially insect pests) in chili plants are active in the afternoon / evening. Correct Dosage / Concentration Pesticide dose is the amount of pesticide or semport solution used in each unit area, while pesticide concentration is the amount of pesticide that must be dissolved in every liter of water (solvent). The killing power of pesticides against pests is determined by the dose or concentration of the pesticide used. Doses or concentrations lower or higher than recommended will stimulate the emergence of pests that are resistant to the pesticides used. Right Way of Use The success of pest control is also determined by the way pesticides are used or sprayed. Things that must be considered when spraying pesticides are as follows: Spray equipment What is meant by spray equipment is: spuyer / nozzle, knapsack sprayer, and spraying safety protective equipment. A good spuyer is a semport grain size between 100-150 microns in diameter, while the spray tool has a minimum pressure of 3 bar, and does not leak. Weather conditions What is meant by weather conditions is the intensity of sunlight, wind speed and humidity. Spraying should be done if the weather is sunny, humidity is below 70% with a wind speed of about 4-6 km / hour. Spraying way The best way of spraying is not against the wind direction, the speed of the spraying road is about 4 km / hour and the distance between the sprayer and the field of the semport or plants is about 30 cm.
